The Interdune Boardwalk is a wheelchair accessible trail in New Mexico’s White Sands National Park. The elevated boardwalk is made of aluminum with railings and is located between two large sand dunes. Unlike most national parks, dogs are allowed on this trail when kept on a leash that is six-feet-long or shorter. Parking for this trail is located 4.5 miles from the Visitor Center. There is a National Park Fee to enter this park.

The interdune area is where most plant life exists in the dune ecosystem. The boardwalk, which is a fifth of a mile long, has interpretative signage along the way providing information about the plants and animals living in this unique ecosystem. In addition to the interdune area, views of dunes and the distant Sierra Blanca Mountains can be seen.

Keep safety in mind when hiking this trail. Temperatures during the summer can exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. During high temperatures hiking is not recommended. Bring plenty of water with you. Note there is no water available at the trailhead, so fill up at the Visitor Center. Protect your skin from the sun with appropriate clothes and sunscreen, and protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses.
