While there are many hotels and inns to enjoy throughout Lake Placid, the Adirondak Loj, built in 1927, offers a wonderful and unique perspective of the Adirondacks. Overlooking Heart Lake, it has space for 38 guests in a combination of private rooms, bunk rooms, and a co-ed loft. The talented and kind staff prepares delicious home-cooked meals with homemade breads, soups, and desserts served family-style in a rustic dining room. The living room is complete with rocking chairs, books, a piano, and fireplace; all are perfect for relaxing late into the night with like-minded adventurers. The trails literally begin right at the doorstep!
With year-round access to trails, there is an overwheling abundance of opportunities for adventure! Sign up for seasonal outings and guided hikes with Adirondack Mountain Club or embark on your own. A universal-access trail opens the wilderness to people of all abilities. Overnight guests may swim in Heart Lake, as well as canoe, kayak, and paddleboard. Rentals are available. Nearby, the High Peaks Information Center has ski, snowshoe, and other equipment rentals available throughout the year. The Game Room is stocked with board games, puzzles, and card games to keep you and your friends busy on cold winter nights or rainy summer days. During summer months, the Nature Museum, located on the trail to Mount Jo and staffed by the Education Department, provides insight into the surrounding environment with various hands on activities for all ages.
