The Mohonk Preserve is the northern trailhead for the Shawangunk Ridge Trail. It is best to do this section as a thru-hike with a shuttle vehicle at Spring Farm or at the Mohonk Mountain Gate house on Mountain Rest Road. Start this section from the Coxing Kill Trailhead parking lot. There is a $15 per person day pass for hiking! You can purchase the day pass at the trailhead parking area or at the visitor center on Route 44/55.

Cross Clove Road and take the foot path a short distance to Split Rock, a popular swimming hole in summer. Continue over the bridge following the blue markers and signage for Old Minnewaska Trail.  Follow for about 2.5 miles until the junction with the Undivided Lot Trail. Turn left and follow descending to a view point. Continue for 3.5 miles until you reach Old Clove Road. This is the first paved road you'll reach. There is a small parking area here that does not appear on map. Turn right on the road, crossing over Mossy Brook. Watch for the Chapel Trail on the left. The SRT follows that trail. Turn left onto the Chapel Trail that parallels Mohonk Road until it crosses the road and enters the forest again.  This next section is a steep uphill climb until you reach the Spring Farm Trailhead parking area.

To continue on the SRT, follow the trail that parallels the parking lot road until you reach the Crag Trail (red markers) on the right. Turn right and follow uphill again crossing two carriage roads. The Crag Trail ends on the third carriage trail. Turn right and follow the carriage road until you reach another red marked trail.  Turn right and this will lead to the Northeast Trail. Turn right and follow for 0.75 miles until you reach Mountain Rest Road. The Northeast Trail crosses the road but the SRT turns left, exits the Mohonk Preserve, and continues on paved roads until it ends when it reaches the Wallkill River.
