This section of the Shawangunk Ridge Trail follows the High Peters Kill Trail and can be started from the lower parking lot at Minnewaska State Park Preserve or the Coxing Trailhead parking lot in the Mohonk Preserve. The High Peters Kill Trail is marked with blue blazes as well as the blue SRT trail markers. This section offers great views to the south and can easily be added on to for a long loop hike using the Awosting Falls Carriage Road and the Trapps Carriage Road to Shogum Path. Hiking from the Minnewaska parking lot, cross Route 44/55 where the trail starts. This sections stays on the same trail until it reaches the Coxing Trailhead. A few things to note: Parking at Minnewaska is $10 per car, and parking at Coxing Trailhead is $15 per person. If you are hiking the loop, you will have to pay the Coxing fee if the parking attendant is present. There is no fee to hike into Minnewaska State Park.
