Bodie Island Lighthouse is located just south of the town of Nags Head, across from Coquina Beach. Its proximity to the towns along the Northern Outer Banks makes it an easy stop during your travels. The 156-foot lighthouse has 200 steps, and the top offers pretty views of the surrounding area. It costs $10 to climb the lighthouse for adults and $5 for children and seniors.

The lighthouse's facilities include a small museum and restroom building. There is also a short boardwalk that leads into the wetlands between the lighthouse and the beach. This boardwalk is wheelchair accessible and offers great views of the lighthouse. Behind the parking lot of the complex, there is also a footpath that leads back into the wetlands and toward the Roanoke Sound. There are nice photo opportunities on this trail too, but be sure to wear bug spray!

Bodie Island Lighthouse is open for climbing from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It remains open between April and Columbus Day. Visiting in evening hours can be rewarding too, as the Bodie Island Lighthouse looks beautiful against the sunset!
