This is a well-kept and comfortable campround in Cedar Point Recreation Area of Croatan National Forest. Located just outside the town of Cedar Point, it makes a good base camp for trips to beaches on Emerald Isle or adventures in Hammocks Beach State Park. Sites here are spacious, grassy, and offer some shade. There are 36 to choose from, all organized in one large, paved loop. Each has 50-amp electric service, a picnic table, a lantern post, and a fire ring with grate. There are water spigots throughout the campground and one dump station. The bathhouse has hot showers for no additional fee. Availability is by reservation, but a certain number of walk-ins may be left available. The campground has a gate which the host closes promptly at 10 p.m. and reopens at 6 a.m.
A short drive or walk from the campground takes you to the picnic area, boat ramp, and trailhead of the recreation area. The ramp and adjacent dock are on the White Oak River near it's mouth at Bogue Inlet. Here you can launch low draft power boats and paddle craft. The 1.9-mile Tidelands Trail loop also leaves from here, which tours salt marsh and coastal forest with good opportunities for spotting wildlife. Animals you may see include whitetail deer, wading birds, ospreys, lizards, turtles, and maybe even dolphins.
