The Elizabethan Gardens are beautifully maintained and lovely to visit year round. However, spring is the best time to go and see the largest variety of blooming flowers. A nonprofit, the gardens are maintained as a tribute to early English colonists who settled in the area. The gardens are a lovely place to walk around, have a picnic, or learn about North Carolina flora and history.

The gardens house over 500 species of plants, herbs and flowers, many of them being native and coastal species. After entering through the main gate area of the complex, you can walk down pebbled walkways and admire the flora. There is a large statue of Queen Elizabeth, from which the gardens get their name. In the center of the gardens there is an open grassy area where you can spread out blankets and enjoy a picnic. There's even a walkway by the water and look out over the sound.

The Elizabethan Gardens are open year round during daylight hours, except for the month of February. More information can be accessed on Elizabethangardens.org.
