Rodanthe is a sleepy little beach town in Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Made famous by Nicholas Spark's Nights in Rodanthe, the area is a beautiful place to escape to. The Rodanthe Pier reaches out into the Atlantic Ocean among colorful rental houses, and it offers visitors opportunities to fish and enjoy the view.
Fishing in this area is particularly good because of the mixing of the Labrador Current and Gulf Stream offshore. Prices for fishing and rental gear can be found on the pier's website. Admission to walk on the pier and sightsee is $2.00.
The beach surrounding Rodanthe Pier is wide and sandy, though it is lined with large beach houses. Some may find these houses visually obstructive; however, their presence in place of public beach acceses means that there are fewer people crowding the beach. Additionally, because Rodanthe is a smaller town, there are often fewer people around compared to bigger areas like Nags Head or Hatteras.
