The Smokemont Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is not only surrounded by a beautiful tranquil forest, it is also near plenty of activities to keep your family busy. Mingus Mill, Oconaluftee Visitor Center, Mountain Farm Museum, The Museum of the Cherokee Indian, and the Oconaluftee Indian Village and Qualla Arts and Crafts are all located within 6 miles of the campground.

The campground provides an excellent area for a basecamp during a Smoky Mountains vacation. With trails located nearby and Highway 441 giving you access to other areas of the park, you can't go wrong with a camping trip at Smokemont. Within less than a mile from the campground, you'll find a general store, horse rentals, wildlife views, and river access. The campground offers 137 sites and a group camping area with three sites. Smokemont is also one of the few Great Smoky Mountains National Park campgrounds that offers year-round camping.

Camping in Smokemont and looking for a fantastic sunrise spot? Head up to the Oconaluftee Overlook, or up to the highest point in the Smoky Mountains, Clingmans Dome, for a sunset. For a family adventure, take a 30-minute drive over to the Deep Creek. You can explore the Deep Creek Loop and three waterfalls and float down the creek before returning to camp. If you're looking for a quiet and relaxing weekend, hang a hammock and relax at camp. Chances are you'll spot some wildlife wandering around the campground.

Regardless of how you choose to spend your time in Smokemont, one thing is for sure: You'll leave the Smoky Mountains with lifelong memories and an overwhelming feeling to return again soon.
