Big Lake Campground is the larger of the two campgrounds surrounding Big Lake, a recreational boating paradise nestled between Hoodoo Ski Resort and Mount Washington. While technically in the Willamette National Forest, which is not typically associated with Central Oregon, it is the farthest eastbound campground in the forest and only minutes away from the summit of Santiam Pass and the beginning of Deschutes National Forest. It is also one of the closest campgrounds in Central Oregon to the Pacific Crest Trail. If Big Lake itself is not enough to keep those staying at Big Lake Campground busy, many hiking trails as well as ATV trails surround the campground on the north and south sides, respectively.

Amenities are fairly limited at Big Lake. There are no full RV hookups, and it is a bit of a drive to the town of Sisters for the nearest gas or convenience store. However, Big Lake does offer plenty of areas to get potable water as well as several vault toilet facilities. For those only visiting Big Lake Campground for the boat launch, two large day-use parking areas, as well as picnic tables, are available for use.
