When it comes to cooling off during the months of July, August and early September, when the temperatures start to soar, most Oregonians flock to the local rivers.  Few rivers, however, are host to as many swimming holes as the Clackamas.

Unlike some of the other swimming holes on the Clackamas, such as The Narrows, this swimming hole and day use area can easily be missed while traveling down Highway 224.  Tucked away next to Carter Bridge, it's the inconspicuous setting that makes it such a great summer retreat.  You won't find too many people camped out on its little sandy beach, and the cliff-jumping spot is just directly below the bridge.

Easily mistaken for a primitive campground, this day-use area along the Clackamas River unfortunately doesn't permit overnight camping. However, Carter Bridge Campground is right on the other side of the highway.

Carter Bridge Campground is a nice spot and some sites offer very easy access to the river and couple of rapids that are a lot of fun to run.
