Day Use Site 2 is an easy access swimming hole up the quiet Molalla River. A less crowded alternative only an hour's drive from Portland, the Molalla River Recreation Area has been upgraded in the past few years with freshly graded parking areas, easy access trails down to the water, and new protections in place for site restoration. As you drive up the watershed, signs marking the site number as well as specific restrictions regarding day use can be found mounted in the trees. The numbers referenced here match the numbers on the signs along the river.

Moss-laden trees, berry underbrush, and rich turquoise pools make this stretch of river special. At Site 2 you'll find a deep blue pool with rocks right at river level for jumping in on a hot summer day. Just downstream from the deep water is a shallower area perfect for younger visitors.

Towering spruce trees offer significant shade for spreading out blankets, picnic baskets, and escaping the heat. Fewer people means more space and more turns jumping off the rocks. Just remember to Leave No Trace. Trash cans are nonexistent here, so you'll have to pack out anything you bring in. Due to the attractive and undeveloped nature of this area, even small amounts of debris can have a huge impact on the environment. Cigarette butts and even fruit rinds can ruin the scene for the next visitor. Responsible use will help keep this river special.
