The hike up Dollar Mountain, located just on the outskirts of Grants Pass, is a short but fairly steep hike that is a perfect workout trail and offers fantastic views in addition to the exercise.

Begin by finding the trailhead and parking along Northwest Crescent Drive. There is room for a handful of cars here. The trail begins on the opposite side of the road and gradually starts ascending toward the Dollar Mountain summit.

For the most part the trail is well shaded as it passes under oaks and even some beautiful manzanitas. You’ll soon come to a rather steep section of trail. The main path goes straight up the hill, but there are also a few side paths that switch back their way up. Regardless of which path you choose they’ll all lead to the same place.

The trail levels out a bit as it continues to follow the ridge toward the summit. You’ll have spectacular views of Grants Pass and the Rogue River Valley as you work your way toward the top.

The summit of Dollar Mountain isn’t very exciting, sadly. You’ll be greeted by a large radio tower and fenced area. When ready, retrace your steps back down Dollar Mountain and return to the trailhead.
