Although Elk Lake Resort Campground does provide a few cozy cabins and is well maintained, the campground alone is certainly not one of the draws of this unique, privately-run mountain resort.  With 20 sites and three cabins, the campground is tucked away behind the rest of the resort in a fairly thick forest of lodgepole pine and offers no direct views of the lake or the adjacent Cascade mountains.

Walk toward the lake however, and the charm of Elk Lake Resort will be apparent.  The resort is centered around a funky old lodge that sits on the western edge of Elk Lake and which provides calming views of nearby South Sister, Broken Top and Mount Bachelor.  Those staying at the campground will likely spend little time at their campsite and more time at the resort's several eastern facing beaches, the marina and boat/canoe rental area, or enjoying live music on summer weekends.

Note: The only vehicle access to the lake is via the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway which is closed during the winter months due to extensive snow pack.  The highway typically opens in late June and closes in early November.  The Resort stays open most of the year for winter recreation, however.  To reach the resort from Duchman Sno-Park is a nearly 11-mile ski.
