Lick Creek Campground lies in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, a part of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.

Though it sits right off the scenic byway, this campground has all the feel of a deep backcountry camp. With 9 basic sites, a single vault toilet, and no other amenities, Lick Creek's sites are spaced out, the campground is rarely full, ensuring visitors a quiet trip in this forested creek side area.

5 sites having parking spaces that can fit small and medium sized RVs though there are no RV hook ups of any kind, a couple other sites are limited to only passenger cars and tents. Lick Creek doesn't take reservations at all, all sites operate on a first come, first serve basis, with camp fees payable at a self-serve kiosk at the entrance.

Two notable features here are the short path that leads to Lick Creek behind Site 8. The creek is open, relaxing, and has an abundance of wildflowers during the right season. Also, if you follow the road past the turnaround at the end of the campground, it leads to a large meadow area and a few game trails that climb into the hills above.

Lick Creek Campground's season corresponds to Hells Canyon Scenic Byway's seasonal closure due to snow which tends to occur between mid-October and mid-May or so each year.
