Limberlost Campground

Limberlost Campground is a tiny area that is densely packed with 12 campsites, some of which have literally nothing separating them.  In terms of amenities, the campground offers only the basics: fire pits, picnic tables, and vault toilets.  Bring your own firewood and water.

Why might you choose Limberlost? First, its location is near to the many wonderful adventures on the upper McKenzie River and McKenzie Pass.  Second, the campground may not receive the traffic that neighboring campgrounds experience (such as Paradise or Ollalie).  Finally, if your group is large enough to justify reserving two or three sites, the intimate nature of the campground suddenly becomes less of a burden and more of an asset.

The campground is in a beautiful setting right on the banks of Lost Creek, where the best sites are found.  The creek must have inspired some sort of free association in the naming of the campground; the Forest Service maintains that the campground is named for the 1909 novel "A Girl of the Limberlost," a story of a girl coming of age in rural Indiana.  Regardless, the creek and the surrounding hikes make the campground a good option under the right circumstances.
