The Maston Outer Loop is a popular route through the Maston trail system. The loop starts and ends at Maston Trailhead, where there are bathrooms and interpretive signs.

The Maston trail system is a tribute to good trail building. The trails are laid out on what is, at first blush, a relatively bland parcel of land. They are not technical. There are no punchy climbs or nerve-wracking descents. But don't rush to pass judgment. The trails offer a lot of old-school, organic flow that is surprisingly entertaining for it's simplicity. Novices can learn basic riding skills, and experienced riders can push their aerobic limits and cornering technique on the same stretch of dirt. Although summer days can become oppressively hot, Maston is a solid choice for shoulder season and winter riding.

Throughout the ride, the singletrack winds through typical high desert flora such as juniper covered in neon green epiphytic moss and occasional cedars. The rugged Deschutes River Canyon is at times just yards away from your tires. It's beautiful, but keep your eyes on the trail while riding! From high points in the ride you are rewarded with vistas of Broken Top and the Three Sisters.
