Hikers visiting Mirror Lake will enjoy spectacularly close and personal views of Mount Hood and Tom Dick and Harry Mountain.  Visit in mid-July and you'll also enjoy the trail's outstanding abundance of Pacific rhododendron in bloom, as well as Douglas's spiraea surrounding the lake's marshy southern end.

Because the hike is short and Portland is close, visitors will also notice the overwhelming crowds, especially on summer weekends.  Mirror Lake is easily the most trafficked hike in the Mount Hood area.  To separate yourself from the masses, climb an additional 800 feet in elevation to the summit of Tom Dick and Harry.

My wife, our friend Sean and I got up early (2:00 a.m.) and headed to Government Camp to do a sunrise hike at Tom, Dick and Harry. Nothing like drinking a few cold ones on top of a mountain at 4:30 a.m.

No snow, amazing views on a clear day, wind kicked up quite a bit at night.

Nice hike. Trail up to Mirror Lake is quite busy. Still snow on the ground on the trail from the lake to the mountain.
