Moon Falls is a remarkably picturesque waterfall that cascades slowly down over 125 feet of moss-covered basalt. The falls can appear deceptively small, however, because of the large surrounding trees, the graded pitch toward the top, and rock shelf at the bottom. Alex Creek fluctuates drastically depending on the season, so the falls can morph from a trickle to a torrent. The trail is both gradual and short, and it travels through healthy forest and dense underbrush.

Due to the fact that Alex Creek is a tributary of the Laying Creek Watershed (a Cottage Grove water supply), both swimming and camping are prohibited. While an overnight stay may not be in the cards, the area is a great destination to reach several short hikes and falls within a day. There is a single picnic table alongside Alex Creek and Moon Falls, making for a scenic lunch spot only feet from the waters edge.

Absolutely beautiful falls. Be sure to visit nearby Pinard and Spirit falls which have similarly short hikes and fantastic falls.

A bit of a drive off the main road, but a nice short hike that is pet friendly (well, at least people did not mind that I had my dog), with a great view of the waterfall at the end.
