Of the 11 campgrounds that flank the nationally designated Wild and Scenic Metolius River, it can simply be said that the further you venture down river and away from Camp Sherman, the more quiet and relaxing the campgrounds become.
Like all the campgrounds along the river, this campground is well maintained by Hoodoo Recreation Services. Unlike some of the others up river, however, these campsites can't be reserved, so be sure to plan accordingly.
While visiting, don't miss an opportunity to hike along the Metolius River Trail, either from Camp Sherman to Allingham Bridge, Allingham Bridge to Pine Rest Campground, or along the western banks near the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery. And, of course, while you are on the trail be sure to have a flyrod ready for an opportunity to catch some of the river's famed rainbow trout and kokanee.*
* Kokanee are sockeye salmon that have become landlocked by downstream dams.
Note: The campground is open from May 8 to September 16 (weather permitting).
