Riverside Campground is a beautiful option for tent or RV camping along the Clackamas River. Located south of Rainbow and Ripplebrook campgrounds and far from the cluster of lower Clackamas River campgrounds, Riverside enjoys a removed and quiet appeal. It is located alongside the Clackamas but sits above the river and requires some navigation down a rocky slope to reach the water. For most visitors this won't create an obstacle, but it is noteworthy if you are camping with children or people with physical limitations.

The advantage of being perched above the river is the view! From many sites the views of the river are uninterrupted and stretch far beyond the campground's boundaries. Campsites are also spacious, private and receive a dose of sunshine in the afternoons, even amongst the stands of old-growth. Campfire rings, tables, vault toilets and potable drinking water are provided.

In addition to hiking, fishing, mountain biking, birding and rafting, visitors to the area can enjoy the many swimming holes and splashing around in the cool water of the river. If you prefer warmer water, consider a visit to nearby Bagby Hot Springs.

Note: Riverside campground is open May 24 through September 8.

Comments

The walk in sites, were right off the parking lot and were very tiny and close to one another. No privacy for the walk in sites, site 2 was so small it didn't look like there was space to place a tent, but right on the walking path. Luckily the staff was awesome and showed us another camp site down the road that was opened.

My husband and I visited this beautiful campground this past weekend and had no trouble finding a spot. The camp hosts were friendly and the grounds were well maintained. Although the river bank was a rocky climb, we loved being right on the river's edge and listening to the calming sound of the rushing river. Will definitely visit again. FYI, the fee is now $19/night.
