Lincoln City is not typically known for any rocky coastline. Its miles of sandy beaches attract many beach goers looking for a classic beach experience. However, if you're the type that enjoys playing in tide pools, scrambling over lava rock, and exploring a hidden cove, then Roads End Point is right up your beach. Be prepared to walk a little over a mile from the parking area to get to the point and its tide pools.
The long walk on the gentle, sandy beach to the point is overlooked by several coastal cottages and impressive houses. Many kiteboarders frequent the surf here as the conditions are usually ideal for such an activity. You'll be able to check out many impressive tide pools at the south end of the point at lower tides. Once you're finished, carefully make your way up and over several large hummock-like rocks around the point to discover a hidden short sandy beach. A completely unexpected site, this little cove is surrounded by several large, impressive boulders jutting up out of the water just offshore. This is a seriously photogenic place for any photographer seeking that classic Oregon coastal look to capture their sunset scene.
Enjoy the view as the boulders break up the waves into a gentle roar. Watch as several sea birds come and go over the headland and out to the offshore rocks. Take your time exploring the nooks and crannies of this unique place, but be aware that the steep headland is easily eroded. It is not possible to ascend this steep hillside due to the instability of its soil. There is nowhere to go but back they way you came from here. Remember to watch the tide as you explore this area; high tides will affect access to the cove.
Roads End State Recreation Site is part of the Cascade Head Marine Reserve and Marine Protected Areas. This means that there are specific prohibitions against fishing and the harvesting of fish, invertebrates, and seaweed. Check here for specific clarifications on regulations, exemptions, and a detailed representation of the area's boundaries.
