Rockaway Beach provides 7 miles of sandy shoreline that is well-suited for picnics, kite flying and fishing. Although the beach is nearly directly west of Portland, accessing the location is by no means a straight shot; whether heading to the coast on Highway 6 or Highway 26, you’ll have to spend some time driving north or south, respectively, on Highway 101 to reach Rockaway Beach. While this means a bit more driving time, it keeps the beach from drawing a large crowd.

At Rockaway Beach, you’re sure to have enough space for a large group to spread out and take up space for volleyball, Frisbee, kite flying or other such activities that would be more of a challenge at a congested beach.  Overall, this is a great destination for a relaxing summer beach getaway. A number of houses along the 7-mile shoreline are available for rent and can be found through a quick search online.
