Though most of the road access onto Salishan Spit is private, you can view the dozens, if not hundreds of resident harbor seals from the north side of Siletz Bay.  Harbor seals often congregate in large groups to rest in sandy inter-tidal zones and estuaries where they have easy access to spawning fish.

Accessing the spit from the south is possible, though it is certainly more arduous. The gated residential community of Salishan Spit restricts outside vehicle access, however their walking paths are open to the public.  Park your vehicle at the Salishan Shops and walk past the storefronts heading west.  It is a 5.6-mile beach hike in total.  If you are accessing the spit’s tip for wildlife viewing, be sure to keep your distance and bring binoculars.
