Sharps Creek is a hidden gem located southwest of Cottage Grove near the more famous and more crowded Wildwood Falls. The recreation area is operated by the BLM and consists of a 20-site campground and a small day use area that provides access to the creek and swimming holes. As campgrounds go, this my not be the most memorable; the 20 sites are arranged in a semi-circle that never gets very far from Sharps Creek Road, which does receive a fair amount of logging traffic. Road noise is part of the ambiance of this place. Private land in the form of open meadows sits directly behind some of the campsites.

There are basic amenities at this campground: Vault toilets and potable water are centrally located, and picnic tables and fire pits are at each site. There are no hookups, though sites are large enough to accommodate small trailers. The campground is well shaded, and sites are generally well distributed. The positive side to all of this simplicity is the low price for a single site. Also, this campground doesn’t receive some of the traffic that other more established campgrounds receive (such as Baker Bay on Dorina Lake). Rather, this is an intimate campground that is an ideal spot to overnight if you’ll be enjoying the creek during a summer hot stretch. And the price is low enough that, if you are just visiting the creek for a day, it may be worth grabbing a site for staging lunch and parking.

This campground is generally open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

A simple minor correction to the info above: The campground is southeast of Cottage Grove, not southwest.
