Summer Lake Hot Springs is a great destination for a relaxing getaway. Due to its distance from any major population center, Summer Lake is well maintained, has undergone recent upgrades to the bathhouse and outdoor hot springs-fed rock pools, and is rarely crowded. The accommodations provide a range of options from low-cost tent camping to full guest houses. Reservation options include six guest houses and cabins, full-hookup RV sites, and nearly a dozen tent sites. All options come with access to the 106- to 118- degree natural hot mineral springs.

Overall, the Summer Lake Hot Springs resort covers 145 acres. There are exceptional views to the sun setting over the mountains to the west and the salt flats to the north. Also, the resort is situated near an ancient historical site, so you have the option to visit the petroglyphs nearby.

The mineral springs at Summer Lake have been flowing up from nearly a mile beneath the earth for thousands of years. It was not known until much closer to recent time that the hot springs even existed, as the adjacent lake water first needed to recede hundreds of feet to expose the opening from the natural fault to the surface. Also, University of Oregon archeologists made a major discovery in the area when they found human DNA in a local cave that dated lake basin inhabitants back 14,000 years.
