Just steps from the sand, Tillicum Beach Campground is a favorite among campers on the Oregon Coast. If you manage to score one of the campsites facing the beach, you will be able to watch the sun set over the ocean as you roast marshmallows. One of the unique aspects of this campground is the fact that you will fall asleep listening to the gentle ebb and flow of ocean waves.

The size and layout of each campsite varies, but each one contains a campfire ring and a picnic table. A few also feature water and electric hookups, although those sites are further away from the beach. Between mid-May and Labor Day it is advisable to make reservations before you arrive, particularly if you want a campsite with hookups. There are flush toilets at the campground as well as potable water, and you can buy firewood. There are not any showers onsite, although you can pay a fee at Washburn State Park or the Newport Swimming Pool to gain access to their shower facilities.

The beach is popular, and in the summer months visitors often spend the day there fishing, surfing, lounging on the sand, and swimming. Campers who stay at the campground in December or January are greeted by the sight of migrating gray whales. Wildlife is abundant year round; some of the creatures that frequent the area include the moon jellyfish, Pacific mole crab, eccentric sand dollar, and ochre sea star. Birdwatchers are likely to spot the brown pelican, western gull, great blue heron, and bald eagle. Plant lovers will be able to identify a plethora of flowers and berries including the Oregon iris, purple foxglove, and salmonberry. If you want to see even more flora and fauna, head over to Yachats State Park at low tide and explore the tide pools.
