The Mount Bachelor Nordic Center provides access to a substantial network of trails that are maintained by the resort. In addition to these pay-for-play trails, the common corridor from the Nordic Center allows access to some great cross-country ski and snowshoe trails in the Todd Lake and Dutchman Flat area (be sure to pick up a free common corridor pass in the Nordic Center before heading out).

Departing north form the Nordic Center, you will quickly arrive at the intersection with the common corridor. Those familiar with the area may or may not recognize the snow-covered landscape as Cascades Lakes National Scenic Byway/S Century Drive. Continue across the corridor to pick up the Todd Lake Trail. Trails are marked and have high usage, but fresh snowfall may require some route-finding ability. Additionally, some may choose to make their own trail amongst the hemlocks. It is approximately 2 miles via the standard trail from the Nordic Center to the south end of Todd Lake, and there is a net elevation loss of 180 feet, meaning you will be headed uphill on the return.

The lake was named for John Y. Todd, an early pioneer of Central Oregon. Signage on the natural history (as well as a privy) are located near the south end of the lake. The lake is encircled by a prominent ridge on nearly all sides, a picturesque glacial cirque. On a clear day, Broken Top is visible rising beyond the northern ridge. The loop around the lake is roughly 1.5 miles in length and can easily be done in either direction.

If desired, this trail can easily be linked with other Dutchman Flat and Todd Lake area trails for a longer adventure. If you'd like to do more of a loop to and from Todd Lake, the Century Drive common corridor can be used for one direction of travel, but beware of frequent passage by snowmobiles.

These areas are closed to dogs in the winter.
