Tom Dick and Harry Mountain is a wonderful intermediate snowshoe trail just a short trip from Portland. It offers incredible views of Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Jefferson.

Parking at the trailhead is not permitted in the winter months due to the potential traffic hazards, so you must park in the parking lot on the west side of the Mt. Hood Ski Bowl. Follow the tracks west out of the parking lot and along the highway for close to a mile back to the Mirror Lake Trailhead. Note: do not follow tracks that venture into the wooded area. These tracks do not lead to the trailhead.

Once you reach the trailhead, follow the well-tracked trail about 2 miles to a trail junction. This trail is also popular with cross-country and backcountry skiers, and it is generally well packed. Follow the trail to the right to find the shores of Mirror Lake and a view of Tom Dick and Harry Mountain. There will be another trail junction with a sign, but the sign can be hard to see as it is obscured by low hanging branches. The left trail drops down to the lake loop and the right will march into the forest. Stay to the right. This trail will start to gain elevation and offer views of Mount Hood and the Camp Creek valley. The trail will lead to a very large cairn and turn sharply to left. Follow the trail up until you are greeted with an amazing view of Mount Hood to the north.

Comments

Please carry microspikes, i saw some people coming in tennis shoes and falling everywhere. As of today snow shoes were not required but the snow was packed down. Microspikes is a must if you are planning to do TDH mountain.
Is there anywhere to camp around Tom Dick and Harry Mountain besides the two sites at Mirror Lake? I'd like to pack in and camp here, but am worried that there won't be a space. :)

Hi there Kat,
Looks like we have the maps up for the Tom Dick + Harry backcountry skiing adventure:
http://www.outdoorproject.com/adventures/oregon/backcountry-skiing/tom-dick-harry-mountain
and the Tom Dick + Harry hiking adventure:

Have a look at those two maps; hopefully one will cover the terrain you need for your next trip up there. We will put up a map for the snowshoeing adventure soon. Thanks!
