Located just north of Bend's city limits and right on the banks of the Deschutes River, Tumalo State Park has one of Central Oregon's most popular and conveniently located campgrounds.

Roughly half of the park's land was granted to the State of Oregon by Deschutes County in 1954, and by 1972 the county gifted the rest of the land to create this picturesque, 330-acre park.  Unlike other campgrounds in the area, Tumalo State Park Campground is open year-round and is the only campground in Central Oregon that offers yurts.  This makes the park a great option, even when the winter temperatures dip below freezing.  23 full RV hook-up sites are also available.

Beyond the campground, the park has a large, grassy picnic area, and several swimming spots that are suitable for kids.  Currently the Deschutes River Trail is being extended from just west of Archie Briggs Canyon to Tumalo State Park.

We stayed in a rented Roadtrip Oregon Campervan in early June 2017. It was a lovely campground with clean bathrooms/showers and a lovely stream side park just across the street. Our favorite local attraction, Smith Rock State Park, was incredible. I recommend an early morning sunrise hike though anytime would be great. Carry plenty of water!
