Chickasaw State Park in located outside of Henderson, Tennessee, on Highway 100. The park takes its name from the Chickasaw tribe of Native Americans. They used this area and all west Tennessee as their hunting grounds until their removal in 1837. The park began in 1934 as a federally-funded cooperation between the Works Progress Administration, the Conservation Corps, and the Resettlement Administration. The land came under the management of the State of Tennessee in 1939.

Today you can find fun and excitement around every corner of the park. Whether you want to hike, bird watch, or just lay back and relax in the waters of Lake Placid, this place has something for you. The park features extensive campgrounds throughout. The swimming area is one of the largest areas of all the parks in west Tennessee. If you like to fish, then dip your rod in Lake Placid and catch some bass and crappie. If you like to canoe or kayak, the lake offers room for everyone to adventure on. About a mile past the entrance to the park you will find the old Bear Trace Golf Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus. There are several roads in the park that lead to the Chickasaw Forest. This area covers 14,383 acres. Here you can go big game hunting in season, ride ATVs, or just go for an adventure. If you are in the west Tennessee area, then you should stop by and check out everything this place has to offer. Don’t forget to say hello to the red-tailed hawk in the Nature Hut.
