If you're looking for a relaxing weekend outdoors, Cumberland Mountain State Park may very well be the spot for you. Located near Crossville, Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau, the park is a great location for a weekend with the family or friends. The park originally began as part of a homestead project on the Cumberland Plateau and was acquired in the late 1930s to provide a recreational area for the families involved in the project. Today, locals and visitors from all around enjoy the park year-round. The beautiful 1930s dam still stands in the heart of the park and is one of the most-loved features among guests. While visiting, you can explore the dam closer by kayak, canoe or paddle boats, which are available for rent throughout the park. Exploring the trails nearby yield opportunities to view the stunning waterfalls created by the dam.

If you're staying with a large group in the park, consider staying in the Mill House. This remote cabin is located directly beside the waterfall side of the dam. If your stay is in the summer months, check out the Olympic-sized pool and snack bar. The park offers cabins and a campground for those wanting to play for an extended amount of time. Looking to escape the crowd? Pack up and head out on the 8-mile backpacking trail and stay at the overnight backcountry site. Not into backpacking but love some tee time? Check out the Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain Golf Course. The course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, incorporates the natural beauty of the area. After all your adventures, finish up the day with dinner at the park's Homestead Harvest Restaurant, complete with the beloved chocolate cobbler.
