Thunder Rock Campground is located just below Dam No. 3 on the shores of the Ocoee River, within the 650,000 acre Cherokee National Forest. This area is a goldmine for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. The Ocoee provides rafters and kayakers with plentiful opportunities for whitewater fun, and over 30 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails can be found nearby. The Benton-McKaye Trail can also be accessed from the Thunder Rock Campground.

The campground itself consists of 38 sites, most of which are standard no-hookup sites. There is only one campsite (T9) with an electric hookup. Several tent sites can be found, as well as one group site (T7). Campsite rates are very affordable and the majority of sites here are large, private and rustic.

Approximately half of the campsites border the river, while the other half are situated up against the base of a hillside. There are a couple vault toilets, as well as a bathhouse with running water, flushing toilets and showers.

Thunder Rock is open seasonally and dates may differ year to year, so be sure to check ahead of your visit. Also, please note that trailers over 20 feet in length are not allowed.
