Hymasa serves as the singletrack access for several different trails in Moab's Amasa Back Mountain Bike Trails region, but it’s also a great ride in its own right. It begins right at the Cliff Hanger Safari/Amasa Back Road parking area. From here it drops quickly down into the bottom of the gully; you'll then begin your long ride up. It periodically joins with the doubletrack, but the route is clearly marked and easy to follow.

As you climb out of the canyon you'll pass fascinating rock features and impressive views. The vistas are absolutely stunning once you reach the top, and you'll see canyons, hoodoos, and towering mountains serving as a backdrop for the rest of your ride. The trail carries you over slickrock, chunky exposed rock, sand, and hard packed clay, winding you around mesas and through junipers.

Eventually you reach the Captain Ahab Trailhead. You can continue on to other trails, or you can turn around and head back down the trail. The descent is fun and relatively technical with several short climbs along the route.
