The Calf Creek Overlook off Utah’s spectacular Highway 12 offers stunning views and is a great place for a quick stop if you’re passing through the area.

The viewpoint is located high above Calf Creek on the section of Highway 12 that is known as the Hogback. This spectacular section of road features nearly 2,000’ drops on either side! This “Million Dollar Road” from Boulder to Escalante was completed in 1940 by the Civilian Conservation Corps after 5 years of hard work.

From this overlook you’ll have amazing views down into the Lower Calf Creek Canyon area. You’ll even be able to spot the Lower Calf Creek Falls Trail (a must-hike!) but unfortunately the falls remain just out of sight.

You’ll also have views of the Upper Calf Creek area, toward the small community of Boulder, and of the slickrock terrain that seemingly stretches for as far as the eye can see.
