The Chessman Ridge Overlook sits on the eastern edge of the Cedar Breaks National Monument amphitheater. The western views of the hoodoos and spires during sunset are particularly well positioned. From here you can watch the many storms creeping up the steep mountainside that allow the nearby Brian Head Ski Resort to have its snowy winters. The road to here is closed in the winter, but you can snowshoe or snowmobile in to see the winter views.

The overlook shares a parking lot with the trailhead for the Chessman Loop Trail, which then can also be connected to the Alpine Pond Loop for one of the few chances to really get out and experience this monument beyond looking at it from afar. These hikes have very few people on them, so you can enjoy the area with great solitude.
