The Sand Caves are a unique attraction located just a few miles from Kanab, Utah. The caves are found alongside Highway 89 and can even be seen from the road (although tricky to spot). There is a large dirt pullout that serves as the parking area on the west side of the highway near the caves.

Once parked, cross the highway and look for the caves up above and to the right. While it is tempting to walk toward the caves, the easiest route up involves a quick scramble up the slickrock slope in front of you. Once you’ve scrambled up you’ll traverse across the slope toward the caves (should be easy for most people).

The sand caves were man-made and formed when they began mining for the sand in this area. Enjoy exploring the caves but use caution near the openings as it is a steep drop down to the highway below. When finished return the way you came back to your vehicle.
