Pinery is a campground and day use area on the southern tip of Rockport Reservoir in Rockport State Park. With 16 different picnic shelters that each have a table and grill, it makes a great spot for a picnic. Camping is also available in one of three sites, though the campsites are essentially the same as the picnic shelters but with fire rings. Space and privacy are limited for camping. Vault toilets and water faucets are available for campers and day users.

This is a nice location on the marshy edge of the reservoir where the river empties in. It is one of the best places in the park for spotting wildlife, which can include deer, fox, raccoons, rabbits, marmots, Uinta ground squirrels, and many kinds of migratory birds and waterfowl.

Note: Pinery Campground is open from May 1 through October 31.

Pinery P103 has become one of my favorite campsites. It's peaceful and serene. It's not quiet... well, it is worldly quiet, but not nature quiet. Prepare to be serenaded all night by birds, owls, frogs, crickets, etc. We have seen deer up close, racoon, geese, ducks, osprey, pelicans, and chipmunks. The restroom was clean and odor free (it's the beginning of the season so the odor may change). You have a nice charcoal barbecue stand, or opt for the in ground campfire pit. (it has a grate for cooking). The picnic tables were nice and clean and the shade canopy over the top is wonderful respite from the summer sun. Three water sources for washing were close by. Last year the lake was dried up from the drought. This year there was beautiful clear sparkling water and the fish were biting. At night the star gazing is amazing! Last year this spot had only dirt for pitching our tents. This year it was nice, thick new grass. The bushes had been trimmed. I can't praise it enough. For me it's my zen spot.
