The eastern shore of the Jordanelle Reservoir is its more natural shore, and anchoring the outdoor experience is the Rock Cliff Nature Center and Interpretive Trail. The center sits among the wetlands of the Provo River, the main drainage into the Jordanelle Reservoir.

The Nature Center features displays of the wildlife found within Jordanelle State Park. It is a great option for families with children to learn about the park’s ecology. Among the wildlife found in the park, the area around Rock Cliff is very active for birds and fish. More than 100 species can be found here, including the ring-necked pheasant, the American white pelican, double-crested cormorant, northern goshawk, American coot, several gulls and owls, and many more. Jordanelle State Park offers a convenient birding checklist for birders to mark off their finds in the park.

In addition to the Nature Center, boardwalks traverse the surrounding wetlands for a leisurely and rewarding walk among the cottonwoods. Signage along the trail points to the wetland ecology, adding to the educational experience of the Nature Center. A pedestrian bridge crosses the Provo River, and beautiful views from the trail showcase the Provo River’s drainage into the Jordanelle Reservoir.

Note: The Rock Cliff Visitor Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday and on Monday Holidays during the summer months. It is open Wednesday and Thursday and during the winter by appointment. Call 435.782.3030 for details.
