Rockport Reservoir and its state park make a pleasant weekend or afternoon getaway on the east side of the Wasatch Mountains. The headwaters of the Weber River, captured behind Wanship Dam, make a crisp lake in otherwise arid juniper-grassland foothills. Rockport offers some opportunities for hiking, but it is most popular with boaters for motoring or paddling on the lake. Swimming, fishing, and picnicking are the other staple activities. Day trips, overnight trips, and extended stays are all popular, with plenty of overnight-only campground areas as well as lakeside day use areas.

As a water attraction, Rockport is by far most popular in the summer. Campgrounds are closed in winter, but the park remains open, offering ice fishing and access to snowshoe and cross-country ski trails.

The park has its own marina with a slew of amenities and activities. In addition to day use boat ramps, there are cabins and yurts available year round for overnight stays, boat rentals, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and a pro shop. Summertime entertainment includes free family-friendly concerts, bonfires, and fireworks displays.

There is plenty of camping available for tents and RVs from May through October, but campgrounds can fill up. Reservations can be made through Reserve America.
