Shafer Canyon Overlook is located in the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park, just off Grand View Point Road. The overlook’s close location to the visitor center makes it a popular destination. Even if it is crowded, the fantastic views are still well worth it.

The overlook is just a short stroll (about 1/10 mile) from the parking area. You’ll be able to see down into the namesake Shafer Canyon and to the La Sal Mountains in the distance. The overlook is also a great place to catch a sunrise as it faces to the east.

Another highlight is the view of the Shafer Trail. This trail is visible from the overlook as it switchbacks its way down into the canyon where it meets up with the popular 4WD White Rim Road.

The Shafer Canyon Overlook area is unfenced, so use caution and keep an eye on any young children while enjoying the views.
