Shingle Creek Trail is one of the first trailheads you come across when taking the Mirror Lake Highway into the western Uinta Mountains. Located on the left side of the road, a sign lets you know you are approaching the parking area and makes it hard to miss. This trail is a quintessential hike in the Uintas that includes a creek, large open meadows, wildflowers, a few bridges of varying quality, great wildlife, and you can even bring your dogs. This is a long hike, but it doesn't involve too many steep sections, just a slight upward grade with a few punctuated ascents. This trail is great for bringing a filter and getting your water along the way rather than having to bring carry it all; the creek runs along most of the hike.

Keep an eye out for moose, hummingbirds, deer, marmot and the occasional elk. Bugs can become a real problem here in the middle of summer. Get here before the hatch or you'll maybe not want to come back until mid-August or during the fall color change. There are a series of lakes about 6 miles up the trail, and you can even access Upper Setting Road near the top.
