Big Pines Recreation Site is part of Yakima River Canyon Campgrounds. Maintained by the Bureau of Land Management, it is situated along the Yakima River and is part of Yakima Canyon Loop, which includes other campgrounds, such as Roza, Umtanum, and Lmuma Creek. It is a good place for boating and fishing and ideal for family trips. You can also drive along the canyon to beautiful hikes, such as the Umtanum Ridge Crest Trail.

The campground is nestled at the base of rolling hills, and it is not very far from nearby cities such as Yakima, Selah, and Ellensburg. A railroad on the other side of the river adds to the beauty of this campground. Big Pines has 61 sites, and reservations are available and encouraged. There are no hookups in the campground, nor are there utilities or water facilities, but the campground has a vault toilet in the parking lot.
