Located 31 miles southeast of Enumclaw and approximately 7.5 miles outside of Mount Rainier National Park, The Dalles Campground is the park's northernmost campground on Washington Highway 410.

The campground is hidden under stands of young Douglas firs and western redcedars and pinched between the White River and the highway. It is well known for being home to a 9.5-foot, 700-year-old Douglas fir. Although the ancient tree is quite stout at its base, time has certainly taken its toll on this giant. If capturing glimpses of these relics is your thing, you'll also want to stop at the Grove of the Patriarchs, where two Douglas firs have been standing side-by-side for an estimated 1,000 years, and at least one western redcedar has a base that measures an impressive 12 feet in diameter.

As for the campground itself, despite its adjacency to Highway 410, it is extremely well kept and ideal for any visitor to the Mount Rainier area. All 45 campsites are quite large and provide ample spacing between neighboring sites. Most can accommodate trailers up to 35 feet, and several have exceptional views of the White River below.

Note: Silver Springs Campground is open mid-May through end of September and fills up quickly, so be sure to make reservations. Call Hoodoo Recreation Services at 541.338.7869 or Recreation.gov at 888.444.6777 for specific opening dates. If the campground is full, try the Buck Creek (primative) Campsites, which are all open on a first-come, first-served basis and are located off of NF-7160 just 4 miles further south on the west side of Highway 410.

Nice campground. Well-maintained. Firewood can be purchased. Some hiking trails. Enjoyed camping overnight and riding up the mountain.
