Dominated by the Copalis River tidal estuary, open marsh, shore pines and beach dunes, Griffiths-Priday State Park makes for an ideal daytime getaway and hike along the 1.5-mile long Copalis Spit.

Located off of Benner Road, the park's day use area features restrooms, dozens of picnic tables and grills, and a large picnic shelter that is perfect for a family or group gathering. From here, Connor Creek has cut-off access to Copalis Beach, which can be accessed one block south on Heath Road via a footbridge, but it does provide access via the trail onto the spit.

Known for its "beach-driving," few people drive as far north as Copalis Spit, so there is more solitude than many of the other beaches situated along Washington's North Beach. The spit is also the best location for spotting any number of the seasonal birds that make this preserve home, including bald eagles, western sandpipers, and great blue herons.

Note: The picnic shelter can accommodate up to 50 people and can be reserved by calling 360.289.3553.
