Privately owned Hat Island is located to the west of Jetty Island across Possession Sound. Depending on the tides, paddle around the north or the south side of Jetty Island. During low tide events, the north side of Jetty Island can become very shallow and even impassable. The scenic north side of Jetty Island is best explored during high tides before making the exposed crossing of Possession Sound on the way to Hat Island. Hat Island, although privately owned, makes a scenic paddle close to Seattle and Everett.  Kayakers can expect to see a variety of birds, seals, and even eagles.
