Just south of Bellevue off of I-405 lies a classic fishing lake...the kind where you stop off at your local tackle shop, pack a few sandwiches into small cooler, and head off with your kids for a relaxing day on the dock.
Since Lake Boren was first fished, the suburban municipality of New Castle has turned the lake and adjacent hillside into an ideal and full-service community park that features two tennis courts, a basketball and a sand volleyball court, two picnic shelters, paved walking trails, a large playground, and an amphitheater stage that hosts the City of New Castle's summer concert series. And, as for the lake itself, fishing continues to be fruitful. According to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, "angling opportunities include catchable-size rainbow trout stocked in the spring, largemouth bass, yellow perch and brown bullhead." Unfortunately, swimming in the lake is prohibited.
Note: Both of the park's two picnic shelters can be reserved by calling the City of New Castle City Hall at 425.649.4444. Reservations can be made 90 days prior to your event.
