Stevens Pass has abundant backcountry snow that can stay untracked days after a storm. A 30-minute hike from the Jupiter Chair puts you on top of the Lake Susan Jane bowl that feeds back down into the Mill Valley Chairlifts. This bowl has steep chutes and playful pillow lines that often go untouched.

After unloading from the Jupiter Chair, traverse south to the skier's right down to the power lines. From here, bootpack up the prominent ridge until you find the line you want or the ridge levels out. Dropping east to the hiker's left will put you back into the Mill Valley chairs, and you can look for the prominent snowcat track that will bring you back to the Mill Valley chairs as you work your way down.

It's important to note that this area isn't technically in the Stevens Pass Ski Area and requires backcountry skiing/snowboarding abilities. Always go with a partner and make sure you have your proper avalanche equipment with you. Always check with ski patrol before heading out of bounds to ensure conditions are safe and avalanche patrol work isn't currently in progress.
