Situated on the eastern slopes of the Northern Cascades, Lake Wenatchee State Park is an ideal weekend getaway for families and groups. Tens of thousands of years ago during the most recent ice age, a massive glacier carved out the valley surrounding Lake Wenatchee. Today, the 2,480-acre lake is fed largely by nearby glaciers and snowmelt, overflowing out through the Wenatchee River to bisect the park into north and south sections.

The South Campground offers 100 standard, non-electric sites for tents and small RVs that vary in price from $20 to $30 per night depending on the time of year, day of the week, and site size. Enjoy the many amenities this campground has to offer, including a playground, boat ramp, volleyball, and several picnic areas near the water. If you are in need of ice, firewood, or refreshments, visit the small general store just a short walk from the campground. The only amenity this campground lacks is full RV hookups, which can be found at the North Campground if required.

During the summer months, take a guided horseback ride through 5 miles of trail, canoe or kayak the expansive waters of Lake Wenatchee, or wade out to nearby Emerald Island from the beach. In snowy weather, try your hand at winter camping, and take advantage of the snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails.

Note that in peak summer months this campground can get crowded, so check out Nason Creek Campground if you desire more space. If you want a more private and primitive lakeside camping experience, check out Glacier View Campground a few miles down the south shore.
