With 21 walk-in campsites alongside Mowich Lake, this modest campground is a welcome resting spot for many travelers. Unlike other stops along the Wonderland Trail, you don't need a backcountry camping permit to stay at Mowich Lake Campground as the campsites are claimed by visitors on a first-come, first-served bases. But, because the campground is free and the Mowich Lake area is such a popular destination, getting a campsite can often be a challenge.

Unlike the larger campgrounds on Mount Rainier National Park's other aspects, including White River, Ohanapecosh and Cougar Rock Campground, campfires are not permitted at Mowich Lake.

During your stay you'll enjoy basking around Mowich Lake, jumping in your kayak for a short paddle, hiking up to Tolmie Peak for 360-degree views of the region, heading up to 354-foot Spray Falls, hiking beyond that to wildflower-filled Spray Park, or even climbing all the way up to Observation Rock at 8,364 feet.

Note: The campground is only open from early July through early October due to snowpack. Food lockers, garbage facilities, and vault toilets are provided, but no potable water. Be sure to bring enough water with you or filtration/purification systems for collecting water from Mowich Lake.
